The Archipelago Ride 2014 is in the Books with record turnout AND record heat. At 45 miles with 5,980 feet of climbing and temps toping 100 degrees this Arch seemed to be a little more brutal than the others.
Thank goodness for the Aid/Rest stops and all the volunteers, they made the day as comfortable as possible and I know enabled many that would have cashed it in to finish.
Climbing up to the final Aid-station with only 15 miles to finish the look and the mood seemed more like a scene from the TV series MASH, it was Carnage.
From what I heard that station provided just enough of a break to re-inspire and motivate all riders to finish.
The final two climbs out of the Canyon were boogers. The good news was you could almost smell the Barbecue when you cleared the top.
There was certainly enough suffering for all but I hadn't heard of and serious injuries, that's a good thing.
Thanks SDMBA, all the Parks Rangers, there are several, the many Sponsors and of course ALL the Volunteers for making this Event happen again.
Can't wait til next year.
